A Message From Mayor Alan Lambert

Dear Romulus Residents:

Thank you for taking the time to visit my site.  I invite you to stop by often to read about current events and issues in our community.  I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge some concerns many have shared with me.

As you are aware, Romulus, like most communities in Michigan, has faced some tough economic challenges over the last two years.  The administration, with the cooperation and participation of the City Council, has made painful decisions to keep our budget balanced.  I'd like to thank our dedicated employees for the sacrifices they've made and the teamwork they've shown.  The community, as well, is to be commended for 'staying the course'.  With courage and dedication, Romulus will continue to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Some have been critical of my public statements regarding the investigation and charges brought against a small minority of members of our police department.  Is is important that the public understand that sometimes things cannot be as fully disclosed as we would like because of the effect that disclosure would have on the investigation and legal matters.  Obviously, the investigation is still under way, and there are several people with charges pending.  My office and administration, as well as City Council, have cooperated with the Michigan State Police, and, under my direction will continue to do so.

We must remember that, although a few officers have been charged, the Romulus Police Department is staffed with dedicated men and women who are professional and have the deepest moral and ethic values.

As Romulus continues to move forward, I am pleased to announce that General Motors has announced intentions to invest $385 million in the Romulus Engine Plant, which will create or retain approximately 320 jobs (please visit Pressroom for more information).  This is a huge victory for Romulus as our residents and businesses recuperate from a brutal economic turn.

In the coming months, I plan to offer several opportunities for you to engage with myself and my administration in constructive dialogue about issues that affect us all.  I encourage you to participate in these events and I assure you, as a result of perseverance, Romulus will be the envy of our neighbors.  I invite you to contact me at my office (734-955-4500) if you have questions or ideas to share with me as we work together for our community.

     Sincerely,

Mayor Alan R. Lambert
